Oily skin is shiny skin, especially in the T-zone (from the forehead, down the nose to the chin). To test if you have oily skin, press a paper napkin to your forehead. When you pull it away, it should be soaked in oils. While you may find this annoying, the good thing about oily skin is it ages better than dry skin.

Oily skin is one type that will never be rid of the acne problem completely! Once you’re cured of it you need to ensure that it doesn’t come back. Keeping the skin clean, dirt free along with making sure that the skin heals well is a necessity that one cannot skip. And nothing helps heal acne better than a weekly treatment with a face mask that rids the skin of all oil and dirt and helps it heal is necessary especially for people with an acne prone skin. What can be better than a few fool proof homemade face packs for oily skin?


Why pay for a store bought face mask when you can use basic ingredients found around the house to make your own simple, hydrating mask. Numerous face mask products are available on store shelves, but they may contain harsh chemicals that can actually irritate your skin as easily as they refresh it. Fortunately, you can find many items to benefit the skin right in your kitchen.

Masks should stay on for 10-15 minutes. It better to wash masks off with a steaming hot washcloth. Run the washcloth under hot water, squeeze out the excess water and then press to your face for a minute. Then, gently wash off the mask in a circular motion.

Please do note that there is no miraculous cure to acne, it takes time and patience to heal them.

Below are homemade face mask for oily skin:-


1. Face Pack for Oily skin made from neem:

Neem tree uses are many and it has been popular in our folk lore for centuries for its healing and anti- bacterial activity. Take 4 fresh Neem leaves and 1 tsp. rose water or lemon juice, Crush the Neem leaves; add rose water or lemon juice to make a paste. Apply this face mask focusing only on the acne. Then rinse (using lukewarm water) it after leaving it on for 15 minutes.


2. Oily skin face pack made of Fuller’s earth:

Take about 2 tsp. Fullers earth, 1 pinch of turmeric powder and 1 tsp. rose water/lemon juice, Make a paste of fuller’s earth, turmeric powder and rose water (lemon juice if your skin is extremely oily). Apply this paste all over your face; wash off with lukewarm water when dried up.


3. Honey face mask for oily skin:

Honey mask can be used by all skin types irrespective for the troubles that the skin carries along! Just ensure that you aren’t allergic to honey. Take 100% pure organic honey. Take the required amount of honey and apply the thick honey all over your face. Let it sit for about 15 minutes. Wash off. If you experience any dryness post the mask is off, follow it up with a moisturizer.


4. Banana mask for oily skin:

Take 1 banana, preferably ripe (you can keep ripe bananas in the freezer. Let it thaw before using), 2 tbsp honey and an orange or a lemon. Mash up the banana, then mix in the honey. For best results, put the ingredients in a blender.
Add a few drops of juice from an orange or a lemon. Apply to face for 15 minutes before rinsing with a cool washcloth or a steaming warm washcloth. Follow with your regular moisturizer.


5. Banana and Honey Mask for Oily Skin:

Take 1 ripe banana, 1 tbsp. honey and 10 drops of lemon juice. Smash banana with honey in a small bowl. Add lemon juice and combine well. Apply mask to entire face and leave it on for 15 minutes. Rinse with a warm washcloth.


6. Gentle Oatmeal Mask for Oily Skin:

Take 1 tbsp. honey, 1 egg yolk and Oatmeal. Mix honey and egg yolk in a small bowl. Slowly add enough oatmeal to create a thick paste. Smooth mask over face and neck. Leave it on for 15 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water.


7. Strawberry Mask for Oily Skin:

Take 1/4 cup strawberries (fresh, not frozen please) and 1/4 cup sour cream or non-flavored yogurt. Let both the strawberries and the yogurt come to room temperature (or close). Put the strawberries and yogurt in a blender to combine or mash together the strawberries and yogurt with a fork (the blender works best). Spread on face and wash after 10-15 minutes.


8. Turmeric Powder Mask for Oily Skin:

Warning: Turmeric powder can stain fair skin. The same properties that make yellow and dark skin glow can make pink-skinned women look sallow. However, the stain does fade away after a few hours.

Take 2 tablespoons flour (used to thicken the paste), 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder and 1/4 cup plain yogurt & few drops of lemon juice. Mix the flour and turmeric together. Add lemon juice and stir. Slowly mix in the yogurt until a creamy paste is formed. Use more or less yogurt to your liking. Apply mask to face and neck. Leave the mask on for 15-20 minutes. Using a warm, wet washcloth that you don’t mind staining (turmeric will stain), rinse off the mask.


9. Strawberry, Honey and Brown Sugar:

Take 6 fresh strawberries, 1 tablespoon honey, 1 tablespoon brown sugar and 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice. DE-stem the strawberries and put them into a food processor. Add lemon juice, brown sugar and honey. Blend in the food processor until a paste is made. Apply mask to face for 10 minutes and remove with a warm wet washcloth.


10. Homemade Clay Mask for Oily Skin:

A basic fuller’s earth clay, also known as bentonite or green clay (if skin is sensitive, French green clay is a good option), 1 tsp. honey, water (oily skin). Optional: your favorite essential oil. Choose your liquid based on your skin type. Add water. Mix in a bit of honey. Add more liquid if clay is too dry. Add a few drops of the essential oil (this step is optional). Keep mask on for 15 minutes.

Rinse off with a steaming washcloth (I like to steam my washcloths with a couple drops of the essential oils in the microwave, but make sure washcloth is not too hot).
