Forever searching for the Fountain of Youth, many people may find themselves spending hundreds, even thousands, of Rs on beauty products, salons and spa treatments each year hoping to achieve the latest and greatest skin, hair and body.

Many of us tend to take care of our facial skin but completely forget about the rest of our body. This leads to dull and lifeless skin. To look after your skin in totality, I am sharing some excellent homemade body scrubs.

These easy to prepare and inexpensive scrubs are extremely effective, helps rejuvenate the skin while making it smooth and also removes dead cells leaving the pores clean. Why spend money on pricey spa treatments when you can make your own natural skin care products at home?

Below are the homemade body scrubs:-

1.     Coffee Body Scrub:

This will scrub away all your dead skin cells, revealing softer, healthier-looking skin. It will add moisture to your skin, preparing it to meet the harsh winter weather.

Ingredients for body scrub:

  • ¼ Cup ground Coffee (Coffee is a great scrub for our skin that helps fight cellulite.)
  • ¼ Cup Sugar (Sugar works as an exfoliator for removing the surface layer of dead skin cells. You can use Brown sugar too.)
  • 2 tablespoons of Extra Virgin Olive Oil (Olive oil penetrates deep into the skin and protects the skin from ageing, makes it supple and endows it with a youthful glow.)
  • 3 Vitamin E capsules (Vitamin E has antioxidant properties that protect and repair the skin cells making skin soft and supple.)

How to prepare and use body scrub:

Mix sugar with ground coffee, olive oil and extracted oil from the slit Vitamin E capsule, to thus make it into a paste.Use this mixture to scrub your entire body. Scrub away gently for 10-15 seconds until you feel your skin has turned soft and silky. Rinse with lukewarm water and use a body wash to experience the softness of your skin. Apply moisturizer to retain the moisture.

2.     Lemon-Sugar Body Scrub:

Best form of exfoliation to get rid of rough skin and give you soft, smooth skin.

Ingredients for body scrub:

  • 1 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of lemon juice
  • 6 tablespoons of Olive Oil/Sweet Almond oil

How to prepare and use body scrub:

Mix all the ingredients well. Moisten your skin when you go for a shower, massage and scrub all over your body for 20 min. Rinse and pat dry, and feel the difference in your skin!

3.     Brown Sugar Lemon Body Scrub:

This particular scrub has lemon, which works as a natural disinfectant. It will open up and cleanse clogged pores. The oils from the mixture will leave you with soft, healthy glowing skin.

Ingredients for body scrub:

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup sea salt
  • 2 tbsp. coconut oil or olive oil
  • 1 tbsp. of honey
  • 2 tbsp. of freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp. of your favorite essential oil (I recommend bergamot for energy, eucalyptus or spearmint for stress relief and lavender or jasmine for something more relaxing.)

How to prepare and use body scrub:

Mix all the ingredients in a bowl until it turns into a paste. Apply to moist skin in circular motion using your fingertips to help skin cells slough off faster for 10 min. Rinse off with warm water. Apply your favorite moisturizer. Results: smooth, soft glowing skin.

4.   Banana and Sugar Body Scrub:

When the bananas are starting to brown, grab those beauties and put them to use. This one skips the oil and relies purely on the benefit of banana and the gently abrasive sugar.

Ingredients for body scrub:

  • 1 ripe banana
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon pure vanilla extract or your favorite essential oil (optional)

How to prepare and use body scrub:

Smash ingredients together with a fork into a chunky goop. Doesn’t over-mash or it will become too thin. If you want a banana scrub for your face, reserve some of the banana and mash it separately without sugar. In the shower, pat the sugar mixture and gently massage over your body. For your face, gently massage plain banana there, avoiding the eye area. Rinse off with warm water.

5.   Rosemary, Lemon and Salt Body Scrub:

For the fellow (or the lady, or the sporty) mixing savory herbs with lemon and salt is a super treat for the skin. (If you don’t use it all while cooking, that is.) Rosemary is especially invigorating, but this lemon and thyme salt scrub from Food + Words is really quite splendid.

Ingredients for body scrub:

  • 2 cups of Rosemary
  • 3-4 tbsp. of lemon juice
  • 2-3 tbsp. of sea salt

How to prepare and use body scrub:

Mix all the ingredients and apply it on whole body, then very gentle scrub all over the body for 10 min then rinse off with normal water.

6.  Vanilla, Coconut and Brown Sugar Body Scrub:

Coconut oil is subtly fragrant and slightly miraculous. This one is a super moisturizer, and can practically double as dessert.

Ingredients for body scrub:

  • 1/2 cup coconut oil
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

How to prepare and use body scrub:

Mix all ingredients together. Rub on skin while in the shower, massage for 5 min, and rinse off using normal water.

7. Citrus Salt or Sugar Scrub:

This will wake you up, great for the morning shower or after sports.

Ingredients for body scrub:

  • 1/2 cup sea salt
  • 1/2 cup oil of your choice (jojoba, almond, olive, whatever)
  • 1 teaspoon citrus zest (lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit or a mix)

How to prepare and use body scrub:

Mix ingredients together. Rub on skin while in the shower (avoiding eyes) and rinse off with warm water .

8.  Tomato and Sugar Scrub:

Another one from Glue & Glitter (where everyone must have sparkling hands and smooth skin), this one is amazing! It employs a slice of tomato as a buffer, along with all the nutrients as well.

Ingredients for body scrub:

  • 2 Tomatoes
  • ¼ cup of sugar

How to prepare and use body scrub:

Cut tomatoes into slices and pour sugar on them. Then rub slices all over the body for 15 – 20 min then leave foe 2 min then rinse off with cold water.
