BEST NATURAL OILS FOR HAIR CARE

Most of us treat our hair the way we do our teeth – never really providing the necessary attention and care until such time that we begin to suffer from some discomfort. Realizing that you have begun losing hair then triggers off a frantic phase of clutching at all possible straws right from your grandmother’s hair care recipe to visiting a trichology’s. In reality, hair quality largely depends on several factors of which, some such as heredity may be beyond your control but others such as lifestyle and diet are definitely in your hands.

Natural oils for hair care I’m going to discuss today are just as great as the ones you have gotten to read about in some of my previous posts on oils as a part of natural hair care. And if you have experimented with and loved those, you will definitely want to keep up with the good work and maybe even give natural oil for hair a try!

One important point to remember is that the quality of your hair is a direct outcome of the kind of nourishment you provide it. Since times immemorial, certain oils have been used by people because of their nourishing properties. Although growing back lost hair is a tall order, the judicious use of these oils can help you stem further hair loss and this, in itself, will give you hair that has volume and a healthy sheen and bounce.

You don’t always have to buy fancy, big name hair products for your hair. Sometimes the best products are actually very simple and found in your local Whole Foods store. What are these simple hair products? Well they’re natural oils. I’m a natural haired woman and know first-hand that natural oils are amazing for hair. They work wonders on my hair. And I have been using natural oils for years to make my hair softer, shinier, and even stronger. Basically hair needs oil.

1.     Olive Oil

Olive oil is great for hair because of the several properties it has – it is nourishing oil that manages to penetrate the hair shaft much more effectively than other oils; it has good moisturizing action, and is also an excellent hair conditioner. If you use the extra virgin variety, your hair also receives vitamin E and mono unsaturated fatty acids that play an important role in promoting hair growth.

Best way to use Olive oil: – Take a little olive oil in a bowl and microwave for a few seconds until it feels warm, but is not uncomfortably hot. Slowly massage this warm oil into your scalp and onto the strands of hair until their tips. After leaving the oil on for 30 to 45 minutes, wash your hair with a mild shampoo.

2.     Coconut Oil

Ever wondered why people from Kerala have such thick and healthy hair? It has a lot to do with their hair care routine that involves coconut oil. Probably one of the best oils for hair, coconut oil penetrates well within the hair shaft and prevents hair from losing moisture by acting as a sealant. As a result, hair is less likely to suffer damage and stays dense as well as strong. The lauric acid that coconut oil is rich in has significant action against viruses, bacteria and fungi and this ensures you keep away from infections of the scalp, too.

Best way to use Coconut oil: – Massage a little warm coconut oil onto your scalp every day. This helps to moisturize your scalp and prevent dandruff and scalp infections.

Once a week, massage a greater quantity of warm coconut oil on to the scalp and hair strands. Leave on for about an hour or two and then wash with a mild shampoo, but do not wash out all the oil. This allows a little oil to be retained which acts as a wonderful moisturizer for hair.

3.     Castro Oil

Castro oil thickens hair, promotes hair growth, prevents thinning, moisturizes, helps reduce split ends, helps to tame frizz, and prevents scalp infections.

Best way to use Castro oil: – Warm the oil and take cotton roll then apply on scalp and hairs massage for 15 min then leave for 3 hours than wash it using shampoo.

4.     Avocado Oil

Avocado oil is particularly great for natural hair. It’s loaded with nutrients, amino acids, essential fatty acids, as well as vitamins A, B, D, and E. And it’s excellent for moisturizing, deep conditioning, improving hair strength, strengthening hair, and boosting shine.

Best way to use Avocado oil: – Apply this oil on scalp and hairs massage for 20 min then cover your hairs with shower cap then wash it using shampoo. Apply Avocado oil every 10 days once.

5.     Almond Oil

When it comes to hair care, sweet almond oil is highly effective because of its emollient or softening action. Rich in vitamins D and E and minerals such as calcium and magnesium, almond oil acts as a natural moisturizer for your hair, preventing it from turning dry and brittle. As a result, there is lesser hair loss. And the nutrition your hair receives ensures it stays healthy, thick and strong, and also grows faster. However, if you have an allergy to nuts, it is best to avoid almond oil.

Best way to use Almond oil: – Warm a little almond oil for a few minutes in the microwave oven and gently rub it over your scalp, allowing the oil to penetrate. Stay with the oil for as long as possible – preferably overnight – and then wash with a mild shampoo.

6.     Lavender oil

Long in use for its calming and relaxing properties, lavender oil is highly effective against nits and lice. It increases the circulation of blood in the scalp and also provides an antibacterial effect that keeps the scalp free from infections, improving the health of your hair.

Best way to use Lavender oil: – Take a little lavender oil and mix with either coconut or olive oil. Apply daily to your scalp.

7.     Rosemary Oil

Rosemary oil is great for stimulating hair follicles for hair growth, preventing hair loss and greying, preventing dandruff, strengthening hair, and boosting shine.

Best way to use Rosemary oil: – Massage rosemary oil on scalp and hair then leave for 3 hours then wash it using mild shampoo. Apply this oil weekly once.

8.     Mustard Oil

Mustard oil makes hair thick, black and promotes hair growth.

Best way to use Mustard oil: – Mix Mustard oil with coconut oil then apply on hairs massage for 10 min then wash it using shampoo after 20 min. Apply this oil 15 days once as this oil is heat in nature.

9.     Grape seed Oil

The super-popular Grape seed oil! This odorless, non-greasy oil is widely-known as a natural sunscreen for hair but can be used as carrier oil. It helps restore scalp’s natural balance and is an ideal anti-dandruff treatment for all of those who, for some reason, can’t tolerate coconut oil, plus a fantastic hair repair and strengthening treatment, thanks to vitamin E and linoleic acid.

Best way to use Grape seed oil: – Warm the oil and apply on hairs leave it over then wash it in the morning. Apply this oil 15 days once for good results.

10.   Amla Oil

This fab natural oil for hair definitely deserves to be a part of your natural hair care! Also known as Indian Gooseberry oil, this fantastic ingredient is well-loved by ladies all over the globe. The “why’s” of it are actually quite fantastic too and I bet you’ll surprised to know this oil isn’t only a great conditioner, traditional hair growth treatment and dandruff remedy but also a well-kept beauty secret you’re going to want to make your own in case you’re stressing about your grays! Yes, ladies, it’s true – when applied regularly, Amla oil can restore pigmentation and help you bid your premature graying problem goodbye!

Best way to use Amla oil: – Apply Amla oil on scalp and on hairs, Leave it overnight then wash in the morning using mild shampoo. Applying Amla oil regularly will makes hairs black and thick.

Note; – If you have cold problem then don’t apply oil and leave it overnight, apply oil and wash it after 2-3 hours.

My hairs were quite thick and black. But recently my hairs are almost 1/3 in size. I have tried every shampoo. It suit for some days. Then again I have hair falling problem. My hairs have become dry. Due to paucity of time, I can’t try too much things on my hair.. so please tell me what should I do get my hair back as they were.

    • Hi Renu…. U cn use L’Oreal pairs shampoo it is really good. Try this hair mask, Take bananas blend with egg, and then add 3 tsp of honey, 3 tsp of milk & 5 tsp of olive oil. Mix all the ingredients well then massage on your scalp & hair gently & leave for 30 min then wash your scalp & hairs using mild shampoo.

And for hair growth u cn use this remedy, This is another widely used hair fall treatment as fenugreek accelerates hair growth and protects the natural color of your hair. Take 1 teaspoon of the fenugreek paste and add 2 teaspoons of coconut milk. Leave it for 30 minutes and wash off with a mild shampoo.

Hi, my hairdresser recently informed me to use Mustard oil to make my hair grow thicker and longer however reading about it I don’t want my hair to get darker. How dark does mustard oil make your hair go?

    • Hello Michaela…….. U cn apply mustard oil with few other oils and then apply it on scalp and hairs because one of the reason is that mustard oil is heat in nature. Mix mustard oil, olive oil, coconut oil and almond oil or vitamin e oil, mix altogether then warm it and then apply on scalp to till the end of hairs then massage for 20 min then leave it for around 3 hrs or u cn keep it whole night also then wash it using mild shampoo.

        • Hello Michaela…. As i told u before also that if u mix mustard oil with other oils then it will not make your hairs to much dark, but if u want to use only mustard oil then use it weekly twice that’s it don’t use it more than that. • Pooja Dubey

    Hey !

I had beautiful shiny and naturally straight hair earlier..!
These days my hair strands have become completely dry and scalp gets very oily on the second day of wash (basically very oily scalp and very very dry strands)! There’s no shine left. Also they have become wavy.
I always apply oil(Almond, Olive, Coconut, Rosemery and Castor – I keep switching between these) once or twice at week and use either biotique or dove shampoo.
Also my scalp is very oily hence I need to wash my hair on alternating days. :(
Can u please suggest which shampoo should I use and Which brand should I use while choosing the Oils and also can u please give me additional tips.

    • Hello Pooja….. u cn the mixture Almond, coconut, olive, mustard and vitamin e oil. mix all these oils in equal amount and warm it then apply very gently on ur scalp and hairs and massage very lightly on ur scalp for few min and leave for 3-4 hours then wash it using mild shampoo. uc n use egg mask as well, mix egg, olive oil and few drops of lemon juice and apply all over ur scalp and ends of hairs and cover your hairs using shower cap leave for 45 min to 1 hours and wash it using mild shampoo.

U cn use Khadi brand or Fijaro brand oils, and u cn try Nyle shampoo brand or Panteen shampoo.

Oil ur hair weekly 3-4 times and make sure you wont wash ur hairs without oils as it may make ur hair thin and hair fall may starts. at least apply little oil before (half an hour at least) taking head bath

I had thick and long hair few years back and now it is thin with split ends. Tried with many shampoos and oil brands but nothing works. I have a soft hair and now I started using Vitamin E with wheat germ capsule oil and Dove shampoo(oxygen moisture). I think it is bit better. Please suggest whether the I can continue the same to get my hair back or I should use any other thing.

Hey hi pragati. As u r saying that do not apply mustard oil directly to your head. I just want to know that is it enough to use this oil by just warming it and I also don’t want to mix it with other oils. So the results will be same for this or what? And also suggests a good shampoo as I am planning for TRESEMME REVERSE SYSTEM(BEAUTY FULL VOLUME) .As my hairs are thin and straight. Please help me
